You might be wondering if Guerrilla has forgotten about Killzone. The VR experience Horizon Call of the Mountain will be next. It won the first-ever GOTY award of 2022. Guerrilla has released Horizon Forbidden West this year. It’s been full steam ahead since then to expand the world of Horizon. However, this all changed in 2017, when Horizon Zero Dawn became a massive hit and Aloy was elected one of PlayStation’s official icons. The studio, which is based in Amsterdam, was previously best known for its Killzone series. Guerrilla Games has had its identity change over the years. Online features (including online multiplayer modes) will cease on that date.Guerrilla Games warns that several multiplayer servers will soon go offline forever. On 12 August 2022, online servers for Killzone: Mercenary, Killzone Shadow Fall (including Intercept Mode) and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League will shut down. EA also reassured players that content previously bought using BioWare Points would remain available. The DLC for those titles can be purchased for free at the Origin Store. Players could use the points to buy select downloadable content for Mass Effect 2 and 3, along with Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. Last week, Electronic Arts revealed that it will be phasing out the premium "BioWare Points" currency. The offline modes of those games are still playable, and many of the Xbox 360 Halo games have already been rebuilt and remastered as part of The Master Chief Collection - which wasn't affected by the shut down. In January, 343 Industries shut down the Xbox 360 servers for several Halo titles. Earlier in the month, Ubisoft announced its own plans to axe online features for several of its now years-old games, including Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed II, and Rayman Legends. Guerrilla Games is the latest developer to shut down online servers for its older titles. Older games and online services are getting phased out At the time, Sony described the decision as a "regrettable" but necessary sacrifice that would allow it to meets its strategic goals. Following a winter update for the game in December, Sony shut down RIGS developer Guerrilla Cambridge and confirmed no further content would be released. Guerrilla provided post-launch support for each game, though RIGS received the least of the three. The virtual reality title lets players take control of mechanized rigs and duke it out across a range of multiplayer scenarios, including team deathmatch and a version of American football. RIGS released in 2016 and has no connection to the Killzone franchise. Shadow Fall, a PS4 launch title in 2013, served as the final installment of the series. The series' lifecycle spanned the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PS4. Prior to developing the Horizon series, Guerrilla's Killzone franchise told the story of an intergalactic war between the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance and the Helghan Empire. The single player campaigns and modes for each game, however, will remain functional. For Shadow Fall, the move will render its Intercept co-operative mode unplayable. The studio said the online features and multiplayer modes for PlayStation 4 title Killzone Shadow Fall, PlayStation Vita release Killzone: Mercenary, and PSVR title RIGS: Mechanized Combat League will all be shut down on August 12.
